Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation Literacy Vision
At Tippecanoe Valley Schools, we believe literacy is the foundation for all instruction.Students must know how to read and write to be successful in school and throughout life. The school corporation is training teachers in the Reading and Writing Workshop Models. We have studied the work of many educational leaders and researchers in the field of literacy to develop our literacy framework and curriculum.
Our Literacy Vision includes the following core beliefs:
OMeet students at their individual instructional levels
OUse a common language of instruction across all grade levels and content areas
OUse of current researched based instructional strategies
OTeach the text structures and features of each content area
OProvide a learning environment that encourages the gradual release of responsibility to students
OUse of authentic text within literacy rich classrooms.
OEncourage students to read and write with passion and purpose
Each instructional block is organized in a workshop format with time for whole group instruction, small group support for guided practice, independent work time, and sharing. Each block has rituals, routines, artifacts, and resources to support classroom practices.Through these routines, students transition from one grade level to the next with continuity, consistency and flow in their reading and writing development.
